Class Descriptions
This program is designed to teach the children to play the songs they've been hearing and singing on the piano. They also learn solfégé, rhythm and note reading. There are some Fun games using the cards come with the book. This class follows a very sequential approach to building piano skills and understanding musical notation as set forth in the books, Music Makers: At the Keyboard.
The class is scheduled to meet once a week for 45 min.
Parents are encouraged to stay in the class.

Variety of methods/programs are available taught by one of the top teachers in the US (Akiko was inducted into the Steinway and Sons music teachers Hall of Fame in 2025).
Method books from Bastien, Faber’s, Alfred or Keynotes are used. All students are encouraged to prepare for the Royal Conservatory of Music certificate program Level 1 (early development) to Level 10 (advanced) examinations. Students with distinguished achievements will be encouraged to participate in state or international piano competitions and perform at world class venues such as Carnegie Hall in NYC.
Other local performance opportunities are provided by Akiko including bi-annual studio recitals normally held at the University of Hawaii Orvis Auditorium.
